Reasons to bare the bottom

We've all heard something like this:  "Young man! I'm going to pull your pants down and tan your bare behind!"

 And it is true that the vast majority of spankings are applied to the bare bottom.  But why?

 I do not believe it is primarily about pain.  In the photos of me above, a spanking on my underpants would hurt just as much as on my bare bottom.
I believe the primary reason to bare a boy's bottom is psychological.

    I loved this! I firmly believe that if a spanking is going to do any good all of the traditional practices must be in place; bending the boy over your lap, baring his butt, etc!

    I suppose it hurts on a guy's bare butt a little more than on a pair of underwear. My dad had to paddle my bare butt once in a while til 18+ Since we showered daily under the same spigot every night after chores having him see my bare butt was no big deal--When it had to happen i just bare my butt in the barn and bent over
