The act of taking a boy over your knee with the express purpose of smacking his bottom, is a very personal and intimate act between dad and boy.  Generally the boy is nude or at least has a fully bared bottom, while dad remains fully dressed.  The "over the knee" position is designed for spanking and it makes dad's job much easier as the boy's bottom is conveniently positioned.

This has always been one of my favorite drawings.  Everything is right. 1. The boy is perfectly positioned over mom's knee, she even has her right knee raised to pop his bottom up higher. 2. The boys underpants are pulled down but not removed 3. The mother has a very determined look 4.  The boy is "appreciating" his mom's efforts!

The walk to fetch the cane!  

I believe leaving the implement used for disciplining the boy on full display is a great benefit. It is a concrete reminder for the boy of the consequences of bad behavior.  Seeing the cane or strap ready and waiting for use across his bottom will often keep a boy from misbehaving in the first place. When misbehavior does occur and a spanking is warranted, the boy can easily be sent to collect the cane or strap, as he knows exactly where it is kept. The boy should also be in charge of the implement of his own correction.  In the case of a cane, regular maintenance is important and this should be the boy's responsibility.  Once the spanking is complete, it should also be the boy's responsibility to return the implement to its assigned place, ready for next time!

For "boys" who are considering entering into a discipline based relationship, it is important to consider how comfortable you are with the question of your own nudity. Most potential "boys" are aware that their "dads" will most probably pull down their pants when a spanking is warranted.  Being over your "dad's" knee with your bare bottom in the air is an accepted part of being disciplined. But in a "dad/boy" relationship, the "boy" must realize that he will often be exposing more than just his bottom.  With his pants down or off, a boy will be exposing all of his private parts to his "dad." And this is not only true in spanking situations.  During bath time "boys" will also be fully nude in front of their "dads."  Also, whereas "dads" will often lock their bedroom doors, "boys" are usually not allowed to.  As  the "boy" you have no expectation of privac

It has always been my belief that it is a dad's job and responsibility to fully undress the boy if a spanking is to be given.  And there are several reasons for this: 1.  It is always dad's decision whether or not the boy is to be spanked on his bare bottom or not, so it is therefore dad's responsibility to bare that bottom.   2.  I also believe that it is a kindness for dad to bare the boy's bottom.  Knowing a spanking is coming up can make boys very nervous.  It is therefore better and somewhat settling for dad to take matters into his own hands and bare the boys bottom for him.  If I am going to spank a boy, I always take it upon myself to bare his bottom. I think shows my control, but also places the boy in the correct mindset for a full learning experience.
